Dehydroepiandrosterone, Sulfate (DHEA-S)
This test is used to determine if DHEA-S concentrations are normal and to help evaluate adrenal gland function.
*DHEA-S can be converted to DHEA by an enzyme that is naturally produced by our bodies called steroid sulfatase (STS). Conversely, DHEA can be transformed back into DHEA-S. DHEA can eventually be converted into testosterone and ultimately into dihydrotestosterone through the complex steroid metabolism system. DHEA is produced in the gonads (ovaries, testes) and the adrenal glands in men and women.
